As part of this commitment our practice features state-of-the-art technology, including the latest in 3D technology. This allows us to understand the anatomic truth of your mouth, jaws and airways so that Dr. William Harrell can provide you with the care you need.

The technologies used in our office include:

Harrell Orthodontics is the first in Alabama, to have cone beam CT (CBCT) dental 3D X-ray imaging. This type of imaging is very low radiation and gives the anatomical truth of the head and neck structures, including the bones, teeth, TMJs (temporomandibular joints, or jaw joints), airways, sinuses and nasal septum, to name only a few areas.

Our office is the first in the USA to combine CBCT imaging with true 3D facial imaging.

We are also the first in the USA to combine Nasal Resistance Testing such as:

So what does nasal airflow have to do with orthodontics and sleep disordered breathing?

  • The nose and upper jaw are ONE BONE, and a narrow upper jaw equals a narrow nasal cavity. It is necessary for both children and adults to breathe through the NOSE easily. MOUTH BREATHING is not normal AT ANY AGE. Please see the video on the late Dr. Christian Guilleminault of Stanford University (the co-discoverer of sleep apnea).
  • Narrow jaws also lead to CROOKED TEETH and “bad bites.”

Our office also features:

  • 3D intraoral scanning (Carestream 3600) so we do not have to take messy impressions.
  • 3D printing capability to print 3D dental models and make dental and orthodontic appliances in our office.

Our practices is the ONLY one in the USA to have all this high technology in a private practice.
